I’ve never been good at publicizing. Announcing, calling attention to work isn’t something that comes naturally to me.
I still — and this is, largely, reflective of when I came up in the (art) world — believe in the idea that the work should speak for itself. At the same time, you don’t want it talking to itself. So, here we are. Here I am, again.
It’s been five and a half years since my last post. There’s too much to catch up on over so much time, but, more recently, in the last two years, I’ve worked on six new series, including w(h)ither, Autumnal, and Light Construction. (Not all online yet.) Three were created in the last six months of 2022 alone, making it the most productive of all the years I’ve been working with photography.
I was also invited to an artist residency at Arteles Creative Center in Southern Finland, a wonderful place, and spent 6 weeks there in the fall of 2021 as well as to a residency in the Canary Islands in 2022 that I had to leave, but which led to my spending several weeks alone in the lava fields and mountains of Lanzarote, which, despite the isolation, ended up being good for me and inspiring more work. That’s how I ended the year.
I have no idea what’s coming next. But I’m starting to get used to that.
